Thoughts

As I sit in a hotel room in Kansas City, I am listening to Jay snore. Praying that this extra rest helps him get over a little virus he has, that is making him feel terrible. Fever and tummy aches for our weekend trip. Poor little guy, at least the weather has made it hard for us to leave the hotel. Mother Nature has helped us to find time to relax. I am contemplating the year ahead, in terms of resolutions and plans, and questioning why I blog? I love to read them, does that mean I should do it too?

New Year, New and Old Ideas
1. Continue going to a local church we have found and love! Both Scott and I want to raise our child in a church but had a hard time finding one we really enjoyed. Part of the difficulty was us actually showing up to one Sunday morning. Thankfully we have visited another, that was just at the tip of our fingers. Funny, how close the right thing is sometimes.
2. Be healthier. Not diet. I am a terrible dieter and love food too much. I can't be restricted. My taste buds are free spirits and need room to move. I have set 2 very small, measurable goals for myself. I see lots of IEP's and thought of myself as a special needs healthy person. So my "healthier" goal is to try to eat 5 fruits or veggies a day. Should be easy, it's what the food pyramid says, right? And, to average 30 minutes of exercise a day. Again, sounds easy, but those days with yucky weather, early nights and busy schedules make it hard. So far I am a little ahead on my average. I would like to keep it this way.
3. $ Save it! Spend less and Save!
4. Plant a huge garden. I can raise a garden, but starting from scratch may be hard. We were so fortunate to have the large plot at the old house and the already established asparagus patch. I would like to grow: asparagus, lettuce, spinach, brussel sprouts, onions, red potatoes, sweet potatoes, basil, parsley, chives, tomatoes, peppers okra and a few varieties of squash. I have succeeded at all of these, so may add a few other things to try something new. All these veggies sure make my healthier goal easy in the months of harvest. I plan to put up more of this bounty as well. Last summer, canning and freezing was put on the back burner.
5. Not really a resolution, but more of a wish. I would love to get a shed built, so that I can get another batch of chickens and have fresh eggs again. Wishful thinking for this year. Again- healthier. This will help with resolution # 2.

I have many more plans, hopes and dreams for myself and my family this year, but thought that was a good starting point.

Now onto another topic. Why on Earth do I blog? I don't really know. I am a terrible writer, and am not at all predictable. I don't blog daily, weekly or on any sort of a schedule, but enjoy getting my ramblings on paper, or a screen. I hope that my blogging attempts improve my writing skills, as I hate to sound so simple in my writings. I need to improve my vocabulary, this can only help. I love to have my thoughts and memories organized in some way. There is not any room left for organization in my crazy head. I love to share my attempts at photography. I have a decent camera and love to use it, but really have no idea what I am doing. And last, I scrap booked in the past, but the time and space that it requires is not available now, or my priorities have changed. Either way, scrapooking is not in my immediate future. Blogging seems quick and clean.

Hoping everyone is having a restful Sunday. We have the lull of winter ahead of us. Stay warm and healthy!
